Dominique Blurb

I had the hankering to write something. So I decided to do some justice to Dominique's character after Echelon made him out as a bit of a fool. Given, that makes sense considering it was written with Alice as the subject. That's exactly how she sees him, at least.

I had a harder time writing this than I thought I would, and I'm not sure if this made Dom seem like any less of a fool, but it's all written down now.

Next blurb will be more setting-oriented, I promise!

It was midday when Dominique stepped out of his jet from Megafloat into the sweltering heat of the Mojave. He began animatedly unbuttoning his waistcoat and dress shirt. The ringing in his ears told him that he was, regrettably, very much sober. That wouldn't have normally bothered him overly, but right now there were things he didn't want to think about. Namely, his wounded pride, as well as his confusion and frustration at his meeting with Alice. He thought they had been getting along recently. Up until last night, she had been perfectly friendly around him. He couldn't make sense of her sudden outburst – and he really needed a way to stop thinking about it.

Thoroughly annoyed, he tore at the last few buttons of his clothing – his latest object of ire. He hastily removed the offending garments and very nearly threw them down on the dust-caked blacktop. In his undershirt and suit pants, he made his way to the Nellis airbase offices. Right now, Dominique needed a bottle of whatever liquor he could find and an APU transport truck. He had an appointment to keep in Vegas.

-

In the Vegas cargo garage, Dominique was overseeing the loading of the APUs he had ordered shipped. He felt much better than he had earlier today, thanks to a generous portion of a bottle of whiskey. “Wild Pegasus” was printed on the label. Dominique had shared a good chuckle with himself at the name. He'd have to remember that one.

“Martell!”

Dominique pulled himself up out of his cups just enough to see the man who had called him. The man was pale, with angular features. He was wearing an APU flight suit.

“Trey,” Dominique hailed the man over with an arm, “It's been a while.”

Dominique stood up as Treyarch walked over. They shared a short embrace before grinning widely at one another.

Treyarch wrinkled his nose. “Smells like you've been having fun already.”

“Not by a long shot, but the booze has been helping out,” Dominique laughed hesitantly before composing himself, “How has working for Horizon been?”

Treyarch shrugged. “It's steady money, if nothing else. Some days I wish I was still calling the shots,” Another smile began to split his face, “But most days I'm just happy not to have to wipe up administrative engine grease. I'll take real engine grease over that any day.”

“Sounds like a good deal,” Dominique nodded, “Now, if you don't mind, let's have some fun. We've only got one afternoon here in Sin City, and I intend to make it count.”

“What do you mean by that? You don't drive out here every weekend? The ESAF working you that hard over at Nellis?”

Dominique started walking, making for the street exit. He motioned for Treyarch to follow. “ESAF? No way in hell they'd take me back, all the trouble I've gotten into – thanks, in part, to you,” He thumped his friend on the back with a heavy palm, “Nope, the Light Labs executives are demanding taskmasters, let me tell you.”

Treyarch shoved Dominique away. “No way. What are you doing for them? Are they working on some top-secret APU that you're testing for them?”

“Not a chance, Trey.”

“C'mon, what's the big job?”

There was a silence for a few long moments as they walked before Dominique looked Treyarch right in the eyes and responded. “Baby-sitting.”

“Quit gassing out the airlock, Martell.”

“No, really.”

Their stare-down was ended as Dominique cracked a smile.

Treyarch turned away and feigned insult. “Fine, don't tell me.”

The two pushed open the heavy double doors, and were greeted by the Mojave sun beating down on them. A little less harshly than it had been earlier that day, Dominique thought to himself.

As always, I'm glad to see you guys enjoying the world so well. I'm glad to see these blurbs every now and again, even belated as it is. The Mojave is a nice battleground - wide open ground, abandoned military bases, ruined towns and cities, and of course, Vegas in the middle.

Related to this, I have sent you two a PM relating to a proposition I have. I've gone into far more detail about what's been going on since then. And of course, I hope you enjoy the new front-page images and content, and the new private test release as well!
